Ludacris Teams Up With The “MLB” & The “Atlanta Braves” For Civil Rights

Atlanta rapper Ludacris has been tapped to be the headlining performer for the 2011 Civil Rights Game Week.

The Civil Rights Game Week is a four-day event sponsored by MLB and the Atlanta Braves, taking place from May 12th-15th.

Organizers told AllHipHop that the game is meant to pay tribute to all of those who have fought on and off the field for equal rights for all Americans.

Ludacris and a special guest will host a one-hour performance that will take place following the day’s game between the Atlanta Braves and the Philadelphia Phillies.

“I’m a fan of baseball, and I am honored to be a part of MLB’s family and tradition of being a pioneering organization for civil rights, social justice and equality,”

Ludacris told AllHipHop in a statement released today (March 24th).

“I have studied the strides made in baseball and in sports and the impact they have had on social issues affecting race and race relations in America,” Ludacris told AllHipHop “The Civil Rights Game Week is a celebration of those achievements and a reminder of our ongoing responsibility to continue leveling the playing field for all.”

The Civil Rights Game Week takes place on Sunday (May 15th) between the Braves and the Philadelphia Phillies. -AHH
